What every yoga teacher should know about a handstand and how to bring great success to your students. This 200 Hour Handstand Training for yoga teachers is lead by The Handstand School (in Association with AcroYogaDance) supported by Yoga Alliance UK. This course is also a requirement to qualify for 300hr AcroYogaDance Teacher Training.

It doesn’t matter if you cant do a handstand yourself or if you have fear of inversions. We will give you the essential tools how to overcome any fears and how to help others do the same.  No matter what your experience or level of ability, we promise you’ll leave having done something to amaze yourself that you really didn’t think you were capable of and more importantly, come away with the tools to teach Handstands effectively, efficiently and safely to others.

– The power of communication & cues
-The different types of Assists
– Acknowledging and working with fear
– How to teach headstands safely in the middle of the room, away from the wall.

The Art & Science of Handstand
You’ll learn how to build stable handstand foundations in yourself and others. We will continue to look at the following:
-Foundations of a handstand
-Handstand Conditioning
– Alignment and Why alignment is overlooked in the pose where it’s most crucial
– Priorities and patience for effective progression

How to teach Handstand to Beginners
This Course will help to deepen your understanding of handstand prinicples of alignment, focusing on the building essential foundations in the pose.  You’ll gain clear understanding of when to focus on alignment (including possible flexibility challenges), when to focus on muscular engagement and when to focus on balance.   Left to their own devices students (and potentially teachers) can get these priorities out of sequence resulting in little progress and less than effective habits

The different types of assists
Just as yoga practitioners benefit from effective teacher assists in their general practise, the benefits of effective handstand assists can be even more dramatic and empowering.  Handstand assists can help a student experience the pose who otherwise wouldn’t.  Good handstand assists often help students overcome fears and disorientation as well as proprioception and strength challenges.  Handstand is also the hardest posture to self observe, we can’t see our own alignment.  We think we can feel it, but when we start practising handstands, what we think we are doing on in terms of alignment is often very different to what we are actually doing.

Acknowledging and Working with fear
There are many reasons as to why students have fear of a handstand. Most fears with effective techniques can be over ridden and bring great success not just in a handstand but life too. We will be looking at the power of language, thoughts, lack of knowledge and past experiences that will lead you to a greater understanding on how to help yourself and students overcome fear.
-Learning how to accept a fall (and get back up again)
-Learning to twist out
-Visulisation and language

How to teach headstands safely in the middle of the room
This will effectively give your students the motor skills of how to be inverted and a great progression before introducing handstand foundations
